It was a Sunday evening, and I was forced to attend one of those overly-sanitized family gatherings. You know the kind. Everyone is wearing pastel sweaters, drinking reasonably priced Merlot, and aggressively bragging about their 401ks, their mortgages, and their perfectly curated, boring little lives. ??
I rolled up twenty minutes late, running on iced coffee and chaotic energy, wearing my leather jacket to cover up my heavy tattoos so my Aunt wouldn't have another visible panic attack. ☕?
Within five minutes, the interrogation started.
"How's the little music hobby going?" "Are you ever going to get a real job?" "Did you get another tattoo on your arm?"
I sat there, eating dry potato salad, feeling the collective judgment of an entire room of people who have never taken a risk in their entire lives. I realized in that moment, I am the undisputed, undefeated Black Sheep of this family.
And honestly? Thank god.
I looked around at the cookie-cutter "white sheep" flock, and I realized I would rather be a chaotic, feral, heavily tattooed menace surviving the trenches of my own life than be trapped in their boring, predictable pasture. Being the outcast isn't an insult. It is an absolute badge of honor. ?️?
I went home, and drew this design. Because the black sheep is the only one in the flock who actually knows how to survive the wolves. ?
